This year I’ve decided to create my own alternative advent calendar based on gratitude!
Each day I shall challenge myself to be grateful! I anticipate that some days will be easier than others but I know the benefits of looking for the positive, so I’ll do my best!
In the run up to the festive season, pressures seem to multiply as the “to do” list grows and time can often run away with us. The importance of stopping for a moment and just noticing, is ever more important and in those moments of pause, we can choose to notice something positive. By doing this we can boost our mood, as Buddha said: “Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have.”
Today I paused during my early morning walk, not for long I admit! The wind was howling and the beach provided a very effective sand blast! However, in that moment of pause, I noticed the beautiful morning sky, ever changing as the wind blew the clouds across! This in itself is symbolic of the ever changing nature of life, our thoughts and our emotional responses.
I revelled in the irrepressible joy of the dogs, glad to be alive on such a morning, chasing over the dunes without a care.
We can learn a lot from our pets, they don’t get caught up in the past or worry about the future.
